Mobile Applications recently surveyed more than 2,400 business and IT professionals, of whom 37 percent worked at companies with annual revenue of $1 billion or more. The results indicate an impressive uptick in enterprise adoption of mobile applications.

Apple has been hit by a lawsuit that alleges the company and its partners are surreptitiously collecting personal information from the users of iPhones and iPads.

CEOs running VC backed companies are optimistic about the opportunities next year, with 58 percent predicting an increase in investing and 64 percent planning to raise VC capital in 2011. The results mark a turnaround for the VC market, which experienced a big slump in 2009 as the economic recession hit.

Windows Phone 7 launched on ten devices over 60 carriers in over 30 countries, with 1.5 million of channel inventory in six weeks.

Forrester Research released a new report on mobile augmented reality that says few companies are delivering “real” augmented reality today. Augmented reality overlays digital information over your view of the physical world in a mobile device’s camera view.

Imagine, you’re late for a meeting in a congested area of the city, and a bad parking situation will only make it worse. So you take out your iPhone, open up the “Parker” app, and discover that there are over four parking spaces (all of which take cash or credit) available on a street just a few blocks away from your destination. Crisis averted.

The challenge to RIM in its key market, north America, was highlighted by analysis of Verizon’s smartphone sales, which showed that the BlackBerry had slumped from 90 percent of the carrier’s total to just 20 percent in the space of a year.

Mobclix says that real time bidding inventory is expected to make up 10 to 15 percent of total ad buys for 2011. In fact, 50 percent of all targeted online ad display platforms will be powered through real time platforms by 2015.

Apple is about to sell its ten millionth iPad, if the company hasn’t already done so. When the company does cross that number, it will be a significant milestone considering the device first went on sale April 23, less than eight months ago.

A whole lot of smartphones – Android phones in particular – are going to find their way into new owners’ hands next year, according to one expert. Seth Weintraub recently predicted that 500 million smartphones might sell, with Google’s mobile operating system accounting for a lot of the purchases.

By November Gartner placed Android second in terms of worldwide smartphone market share. The operating system accounted for 25 percent of the market in the third quarter. In the previous year Android accounted for only about 3.5 percent of the worldwide smartphone market.

In 2011 the malware scene may see some new trends that turn previously safe platforms into targets. McAfee is particularly worried about the threat posed by location-based services, which could allow cyber-crooks to pinpoint a user’s exact location. While it’s possible for crooks to use a service like Foursquare to find out when you’re not at home (and to ransack your belongings), the bigger concern is how location data could give criminals new avenues of attack.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society recently conducted a survey of 950 of its members. The survey indicates that 70 percent plan to deploy iPads in 2011.
