SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 Unified Access to Applications and Processes some more new capabilities…
Hello all,
Today I would like to share with you some more very useful features that come out-of-the-box with the new SAP NetWeaver Portal release (7.3).
1) My Objects
The concept of “My Objects” provides a flexible way to maintain a list of your top used PCD objects: folders, roles, pages, iViews, with quick access to these objects. One can say that it is just like the favorites of the PCD objects. Yes, exactly! Bellow you can see how we add objects to the “My Objects” list (on the left) and on the right, the “My Objects” runtime view.
2) Portal Content Studio Overview Page
In order to ease the work of content administrator and provide one place for links and information resources, we have introduced the Portal Content Studio overview page, which is a customizable page for (internal & external) information resources used by content administrators. Typical links that should be available there are: online documentation, SDN forums, internal guidelines, etc. Bellow you can see a screenshot of the page in edit mode.
3) Copy PCD ID
How many times where you looking for an easy way to retrieve the PCD ID of a specific iView!? I assume many many times. This is a nice new enhancement to the actions available for any PCD object in the Portal Content tree, that copies to the clipboard the PCD ID of the object, in one click!
4) Role preview
The role preview capability provides you a snapshot into the role structure without even opening the role for editing. In addition, this new capability enables you to reuse subsets of the role into another role (useful, isn’t it?!)
5) Framework page configuration
A single place to configure all the framework pages’ setting (masthead, menus, tool bar, etc.). Much simpler than previously, where we had to look for each and every property in the property editor.
6) New Support Page
I assume that you are all familiar with the support page of the Portal (where we used to upload portal applications, clean personalization, access the PCD Inspector, and much more). With the new portal release, we made a “face lift” to the support page to make it much more intuitive and user friendly. In addition, we have added some highly important tools, such as the PAR to WAR migration tool.
7) User Authorization Reports
User authorization reports are new reports that provide information about each user\group\role and to which back-end systems they are connected. You will find this tool very useful to identify if a user requires access to a specific back-end system.
These were only few enhancements (out of many) of the new SAP NetWeaver Portal release, in the coming blogs we will share more and more new enhancements.
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous new year!

Aviad Rivlin
Very informative blog. Waiting eagerly for the upcoming blogs in this series.....
One quick question: You have mentioned the user authorization reports will provide reports for users connected to backend system, what about the user authorization reports for the users who do not have any backend role? (I mean the users who has access only to portal & KM content Or for that matter guest users who have very limited access)

I has lot of room for improvement. I think 7.3 is a way ahead in this direction.
nice blog
This looks interesting and promising as far as the roadmap for Portal is concerned.
Any ideas on enabling Drag and Drop functionality so as to re-arrange the page layout to be incorporated.
Thanks,
Nikhil
We have D&D capabilities in the TLN with the new AJAX framework page and D&D in the content area with Web Dynpro Java.
Regarding enhanced page composition, we have the new product - Enterprise Workspaces that provides this exact functionality.

Par-files are replaced by war-files.
But what is the best way to download an existing portal application on Portal 7.3 that we want to adapt (e.g. top level navigation).
On Portal 7.0 we were able to download the Par-files from the portal. We imported it in an new NWDS Portal project and deployed it to the portal.
Do we need server file access to download existing portal applications?
