Challenges of being SAP BW-BI-EPM SIs (System Integrators) – part 1

SAP BW / BI / EPM space is going through sea changes especially after BO and few other acquisitions in the past. This solution space is full of volatility now and presents new challenges for System Integrators.

If I am the one leading this solution space (for SI), which areas shall be my top three focus areas (at least for next one year) and why?

Challenges

GOLD, SLIVER & BRONZE Stars are my preference of focus in order.

I'm quite curious about the future for the planning platform.
If Integrated Planning, why is SAP still developing it? In BW 7.3 there will be a new ABAP transaction to work on IP, and if you look at the new roadmap IP will be in-memory.
Are you sure that BPC (with all its limitations) can substitute Integrated Planning?

It is pianful question. IMHO - No, at least 3-5 year. Why SAP is continue invest to IP? Answer is simple - because BPC at this moment is not ready for real big projects.

      Hello Agrawal,

in general I agree with your assessment. However, BW Integrated Planning is far from being a "dying product". To the contrary, it is becoming the underlying platform for all BW-based planning applications and the foundation for in-memory based planning. Please see session EIM300 on www.virtualsapteched.com for example. Since BW-IP has several significant enhancements in releases 7.0 EhP1 and 7.3, one can expect more projects in this area, too (especially once SAP HANA starts to fly).

      Regards,
      Marc

      Hi, Marc.

We are currently using BPS. So would it then be advisable to actually convert to IP rather than going BPC since it is still quite. But is it worth investing the time to upgrade to IP though?
