Key Take Aways from SAP TechEd 2010, Bangalore

This was the third time that I attended the SAP TechEd at Bangalore.
And it was an exhilarating experience.
I met so many different people, from different backgrounds, different nations, the only word that connected them together was SAP! The vastness of SAP can only be felt at this place and I was so proud to be a part of SAP.

I was running here and there for lectures and handson workshops, confused on which one to attend, because each one seemed to be as important as the other. There were so many different tools to learn about.

I work as a SAP BW Consultant, so was mostly interested in attending the sessions around BI and EIM.The buzz words in TechEd from BW point of view were SAP BW 7.3, Business Objects 4.0 and HANA.

Following are some of the key highlights from all the sessions I took.
Business Objects is here with the next big release planned in next year (Currently in ramp up mode ) which is BO 4.0(Aurora)

The important tools with BO 4.0 are as below :

1. New Information Designer Tool (Formerly Universe Designer)
It comes with Data Federator integrated into it thus allowing multi-source universe access

2. SAP Crystal Reports
New Styling, common query design across all datasources, automated report translation for global deployments

3. SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence
new charting and tool bar options, with on the fly data browsing and validation

4. SAP Business Objects Dashboards (Formerly XCelsius)
Support for new semantic layer i.e. Universe

5. SAP Business Objects Analysis Edition for MS Office (Pioneer)
Can be used to build Excel Based BI Applications, run existing BEx Queries, migrate BEx Users

6. New Web Application Design Capabilities(Currently planned with SAP Business Objects BI 4.1)
Modern look and feel, WYSIWIG

7. SAP Business Objects Explorer Accelerated Version
Consists of BO Data Services in order to allow index generation on non SAP DataSources along with the conventional indexes on SAP BW data which was possible earlier also.

SAP Netweaver BW 7.3 is the next big version of SAP Netweaver which will be launched soon(Currently in ramp up mode).
The main aim in launching this new version is to provide improved scalability along with improved development efficiency.
There are many types of new InfoProviders like Hybrid Provider, Composite Provider, Semantically Partitioned Object which allow easy modeling of some scenarios which was not possible earlier.

To get detailed overview of BW 7.3, you can follow the below link.

SAP Business Warehouse  7.3

Also HANA 1.0 (High Performance Analytic Appliance) is coming next. It will allow Real-time operational analysis on mass data.
In TechEd it was clearly stated that HANA in no way is the replacement of SAP BW, but in future it will be merged with SAP BW in order to meet Real time reporting requirments.

The next version of SAP BW 7.3X will be running on HANA 1.X as the underlying in Memory DB Platform thus merging BWA and DB in one instance.

Waiting to get my hands on this new tool from SAP.
