SAP StreamWork: You Love It, and Now Your IT Department Will Too

Ever wonder why you keep coming back to SAP StreamWork and why it’s catching on? In talking with our customers, here’s what we’ve found about how you and other people work:

  • You are doing more ad-hoc work and less process-driven work. Examples include budgeting, defining KPIs, or collaborating around a sales deal
  • Much of the work you do is with other people across time zones, with your business and social networks and while you’re on the go
  • You want easy-to-acquire and easy-to-use solutions that work with the applications you already know (email, web 2.0 apps, enterprise apps)

We designed SAP StreamWork with these work trends in mind, which is why SAP StreamWork helps you to connect with people within and outside your company, brings you information from multiple different business systems and gives you proven methodologies that apply structure to ad hoc projects and helps you complete your work.

The enterprise edition gives IT departments enterprise-class features and controls to manage integration, security, auditing and rollback.

Here’s what else we found: If you’re a typical professional, you probably try to use the best tool for the job. Frequently that tool is one that your IT department has provided.  But in other cases, you may find that nothing quite fits the bill and you have to go the “ask for forgiveness, not permission” route and acquire an application that hasn’t been blessed by IT. It’s not that you actively want to subvert your IT department’s policies; it’s just that the productivity you get exceed the risks to you.

We hope SAP StreamWork is one of those applications that you’re tempted to use no matter what.  At the same time, we’ve developed a new edition of SAP StreamWork that has the security features your IT department will love as well as new features for you.

Here’s a summary of what’s new.

  • Work securely in the cloud and with your enterprise applications: With the new SAP StreamWork enterprise edition and our Novell partnership, we are able to bring you better integration with the applications you use today, including your SAP and third-party applications to ensure you can work quickly and fluidly.
And for IT, our new enterprise edition leverages Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Appliance Toolkit to deliver advanced security, automatic provisioning and a foundation for secure integration between the SAP StreamWork cloud application and your on-premise enterprise applications, ensuring that data is shared only with those that have been approved to see it. The enterprise agent can be installed and configured in less than an hour, provides easy remote management and is a single collaborative application that can be used across complex IT landscapes as it works with any applications.
  • Integrate with your SAP applications to ensure informed decision making:  Along with the enterprise edition, we’re also announcing our first three pre-packaged integrations for SAP StreamWork:  SAP Product Lifecycle Management for ideation management, available in December; SAP Customer Relationship Management for sales opportunity collaboration and activity streams for updated, available in first half of 2011; and SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management, available in the first quarter of 2011.
  • Respond rapidly with activity streams (feeds):  The enterprise edition enables business people to monitor work activities and changes in business systems, enabling rapid response to issues or updates.  For IT, the enterprise edition provides a foundation for delivering secure feeds to/from any enterprise application.
  • Find experts:  Tap into the power of your social networks in a business context, including creating your profile to share with others, searching or exploring your connections or filtering social information.
  • Work seamlessly between SAP StreamWork and Google Apps: SAP StreamWork is now available in the Google Apps Marketplace and you can use your existing OpenID (your Google or Google Apps login) for SAP StreamWork.  Also, very soon Google Apps will be tightly integrated into SAP StreamWork, providing you with the ability to use Google’s applications for calendaring, email and document creation and management as part of your problem-solving process in SAP StreamWork.
  • Stay connected on the go with our new mobile clients: Soon we will introduce a new RIM BlackBerry mobile client from the SAP Service Marketplace.  We’re also working on an Apple iPhone mobile client.

Soon you will be able to access Google Docs from within SAP StreamWork and access SAP StreamWork from your RIM BlackBerry device.
