2 December 2010 Postal Bulletin Summary
Just two DMM Revision items today, “Click-N-Ship Insurance Indemnity Coverage Increase” and “Packaging Standards for Mail Processed at Network Distribution Centers.” The first raises the limit to $5,000, which might be of interest if that’s a service you use. The other item is to “…clarify that books and similar printed matter must be packaged to avoid being damaged in processing.” If you mail these types of items, you’ll want to check out the requirements in this bulletin, such as how the packages must be sealed, what type of material is acceptable at different weight levels, etc.
As for PB content affecting Presort, that’s really about it for this one – just the “normal” minor PO facility updates. You might have been expecting some label list changes in this edition, this being an even month, but as I think we saw earlier this year the rule is they are in the PB that comes out on the 1st Thursday after the 1st Monday of an even-numbered month. So I think Label List changes are still coming, they’ll just be in the PB on the 16th.
One other thing I’ll mention – there was info last week coming out of the recent MTAC meetings noting the USPS plans to publish a Federal Register Notice (FRN) regarding new container separation requirements for origin-entered mail to match the changes they’ve been making to the NDC system. They estimate it will be around _300 pages_ and that it will be published before year-end. Nice way to say “Happy Holidays,” a little light reading for those long car rides 🙂
