How to release (or) refresh a Portal Component Project (PAR file) in SAP Portal?

This is my first blog in SDN. Its not new for me, I had been blogging on different matters on my personal blogs from few years.

Technically this blog is a very simple and deals with Runtime Errors in SAP Portal. For Portal beginners, when they face these kind of issues shown below, my blog can be helpful to think in different directions.

1. If you are getting a portal runtime error or portal dump for the PAR file or portal component project like below, you have to follow the below steps to release the PAR file.

//weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/251948654/1.png|height=125|alt=image|width=700|src=https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/251948654/1.png|border=0!

2. We need to navigate to netweaver administration page in portal via http://<host>:port/nwa and check for logs. If logs gives any technical error details like code syntax problems in JSPs or any Java runtime erros, we can go to code and correct it before we deploy the new PAR file.

Else sometime, we may face issues with locking of the PAR file and there will be no runtime errors in the code you have written, then ask administrator or basis of the Portal to unlock the PAR file from the following manner.

Navigate to System Administration -> Support.

3. Click on “Portal Runtime”

4. Click on “Application Console”

5. Select the dropdown and select your project/ portal application component (PAR file) and click on Show button
//weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/251948654/5.png|height=112|alt=image|width=536|src=https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/251948654/5.png|border=0!
6. Click on “Release” links to release or refresh the Portal Component
