Putting my Hands On the New Semantic Layer (BI262)
Got to spend some time this morning on the new Common Semantic Layer. It really is the revolution we’ve been waiting for in Universe Design. New prompts, more advanced joins, multiple sources. The downside? Most of your people will need to be retrained. The upside? You won’t need to invest nearly as much in ETL, advanced report creation, or reinventing the wheel constantly. I will say that I’m pretty disappointed this sort of session wasn’t available at the SAP BusinessObjects User Conference. [Crickets] Moving on.
What, exactly is a Rapid Mart (EIM109)
Been hearing this term bantered around and wanted to know what it looked like, how it worked, and whether it threatened my job security. I’m not too worried. I think it is a fine way to get something stood up fast, and ideally businesses would be willing to run at least parts of their businesses truly “out-of-the-box” but in my experience that just doesn’t happen. Have not heard where the line lies that separates the use case for Rapid Marts from the use case for the new Analytics items.
Networking Lounge Session
Sat down with some “Reportapalooza” experts and some actual fans of the campaign to discuss all about it. The main outcome? People want it to continue, and they want to learn more about the tools. If that isn’t success, I’m not sure what is.
BOE Admin Session in the Pods
I haven’t really historically been an admin, but I need to learn. Technical issues prevented this from being the place for that. As a side note, I realize today’s entry isn’t terribly in-depth. It has been a long conference season. And judging by the general sluggishness this afternoon, I’m not the only victim of said length.
Concert with Lifehouse (including a meet and greet for yours truly)
Normally I don’t like to predict the future, but I can virtually guarantee tonight will involve a LOT of awesomeness, a dash of swagger, and at least 2 distinct episodes of me referring to Lifehouse as “the new Gin Blossoms” to their faces.
