With all the blogs being published around TechED I will share to you how I am experiencing TechED Las Vegas as a speaker (PMC 235: TechED 2010 session PMC235 - Petrobras: SAP NetWeaver Portal as an Application Portal).

This blog is about my 2nd day at TechED Las Vegas 2010. After the breakfast

Keynote: We are now in the era of AND, and what surprised me was that the 1stdemo presented featured the SAP Portal.

Now a list of my activities from day 1:

EXP421: There is way more work behind the SAP Social Media than you expect: FTEs, analyzing, campaigns monitoring, etc. Short: SAP is taking social media serious.

POD32: Vitaly showed and explained the new portal 7.3, although I believe he couldn`t present it as he wished / planned because he always had to answer questions: SharePoint integration, AJAX framework, browser support, performance, administration, business packages, mobile, Web Page Composer, Enterprise Workspaces, it just ddin`t stop (I`m guilty some questions). I got his attention with my ideas about a mobile portal and started a brainstorming session.

Laure: Laure - from the SCN team - was looking for me since yesterday, so I decided to enforce the meeting and started a search for her. Thanks to the TechED events team she found me (see? It`s not so complicated to find me :-). I had a nice conversation with her about SCN, me views and opinions and I got my SCN Topic Leader Badge!

PCM235: I prepared myself for my session (that is: where is Palazzo G?) and checked my presentation again and again. The room and the infrastructure was amazing. The attendance was good, if anyone that participated my lecture, please give me feedback. We talked about Petrobras, the history and usage of SAP Portal at Petrobras and than switched to the technical details:

  • SSO with MS AD (SSO logon and Non-SSO logon to the portal)
  • How to customize / develop PARs
  • Theme modifications (SAP and custom) and how to get your theme into the HTML Header
  • The modifications me made and most importantly: how (fullscreen, user focused navigation, usage of AJAX in the portal)
  • The infrastructure (Web Dispatcher, Backends)
  • How we gather usage statistics from the portal (custom application + some BI)
  • How we made the transformation of the portal a success, thanks to the Change Management

Demo Jam:Mark Yolton talked about everyday heroes and as an example he will call the SAP Mentors and Topic Leaders on the stage:

Nice to be recognized for your contributions in front of all TechED attendees. I believe Marilyn was happy to see me finally (that makes her the 2nd person after Laure). My agenda didn`t permitted that I attended whole Demo Jam and I left shortly after the group foto. But I will assist the Demo Jam recording available at virtual TechED: http://www.sapteched.com/virtual
