Business ByDesign is becoming a platform

Being part of the Business ByDesign Solution Management team for more than 5 years now, I thought it’s finally time to start blogging about it.
Let’s briefly recap the last years: After an initial announcement in 2007 and a controlled roll-out since then, a few months ago SAP announced general availability of Business ByDesign with its current version of Feature Pack 2.5 and right now the Feature Pack 2.6 is being developed.
At this year’s conference of the German SAP user group DSAG in September you might have heard already that SAP will build other on-demand products based on the underlying architecture and business logic of Business ByDesign.
In addition to that partners will be able to build add-on solutions for Business ByDesign itself very soon.
Both examples show that ByDesign is more than just a product that SAP and its partners are selling, it’s also evolving into a development platform.

To find out more about ByDesign and especially the software development kit for partners just check out the agenda for this year’s developer conference SAP TechEd 10.

Business ByDesign on the TechEd 10 agenda

This year you find multiple sessions about Business ByDesign:

  1. There will be two expert networking sessions where colleagues (e.g. Tina Tuan) will show you the latest news about Analytics and our Mobile Applications in ByDesign. In case you didn’t know yet: There’s a free ByDesign-iPhone app available on iTunes (not available in all countries yet).

  2. ByDesign is represented on an Interactive Station in the Community Clubhouse during TechEd the whole time. Just stop by, view a demo and discuss about ByDesign with my colleagues there.
  3. Furthermore there are two educational sessions you can attend:
    a) “Easy to implement, easy to extend” will help to understand how you configure and implement ByDesign and how easy it is to change and extend your initial scope at any later point in time when you are using it productively already.

    b) The second talk is especially addressing partners who want to build add-on solutions for ByDesign: It will highlight the overall process and the basic features of the software development kit.

  4. An additional 2 hours demo pod exist to meet with the speakers of the second talk. Ask them all your questions related to the software development kit.

  5. And last but not least for all of you who seriously consider becoming a solution partner for ByDesign there’s a 4 hours hands-on training session to get deep insight in the software development kit. You will build your first application including a new business object and several UIs for it.

Even if I personally won’t be able to attend TechEd, I am looking forward to it to hear all the feedback we will receive on social media – such as Twitter – but also through our colleagues on site. There exciting times ahead.
So, did you already register? If not, then go ahead!

TechEd 10 will take place in:
Berlin: October 12-14
Las Vegas: October 18-22
Bangalore: December 1-3
Shanghai:  December 1-2
