Dear community,

as this is my first blog I would like to introduce myself in a short way. I'm currently in the vocational training at SAP Germany in Walldorf and study Applied Computer Science in Karlsruhe (2nd semester).

I would like to take the chance and present you my development project at the SCM consulting department with the help of Michael Mack. This project is related to a customer request with the aim to monitor process chains in SAP systems on Blackberry phones. The reason I'm writing about this is that maybe some of you could be interested in this application or any other related topic and it's also a good way to increase the publicity of such a project.

Nevertheless I think that pictures give you the best impression of the Blackberry Process Chain Monitor:

  • System selection screen and login:

  • Process chain selection and predecessor/successor steps:

  • Detail screen and application settings:

Overview of the application features:

  • Monitor the latest process chain runs of a SAP system (also historical runs)
  • Filter process chain runs by the actual state, date and name
  • Navigate trough the different chain steps with predecessors, successors and parallel steps
  • See the detail log for any step
  • Simply restart chain steps from your phone
  • Send emails to responsible persons from a generated template
  • Blacklist certain process chains for saving bandwidth and get a better overview
  • Get notifications via the email push service directly in your app

For the one of you who need some technical background here it is. The application is developed with the Blackberry JDE 4.5 so it is possible to run the app even on older phones. The communication between application and SAP system bases on SOA and is very lean. In detail there are 3 remote function modules which handle the communication with the Blackberry phone and all implemented functionalities. The notification service consists of an email parser where customized notification texts can be sent to your Blackberry.

It's possible to test the Process Chain Monitor on your own blackberry as we've build up a demo scenario to get a feeling of the UI. If you are interested in this project feel free to contact us.
