Coming back from vacation means it is time to get serious about technology trends and strategy again. One of the topics that got quite some visibility before vacation time was our new and more systematic approach towards open source. In particular, in terms of integrating open source into our product line and contributing to open source projects. See Phil Odence on Network World, for example.

Talking about open source, what is even more interesting is the evolution of business models based on open source software, which from an SAP perspective, includes the aspect of partnerships with and investments into open source vendors. Which is why I am going to attend the Open Source Think Tank organized by the Olliance Group in Paris on September 28th and 29th. The event, organized in a workshop style, will be attended by various IT executives from both vendor and user organizations to share ideas, discuss case studies and connect.

If you are interested to attend as well, please go to the event homepage, click on “Register” and ask for an invitation. Would be happy to meet you there.

In October, I’ll see what I can share from the event – stay tuned.
