With considerable amounts of data being collected through ERP systems and other enterprise applications, organizations are sitting on mountains of data from which they can gain valuable insight into the operations of their businesses. Business users – from executives to line of business users – can be empowered to make better and more effective decisions if they are given access to this data and the right tools with which to analyze it.

In Chapter 7 of Best-Built Applications, we introduce the SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence (BI) tools and technologies, and discuss what OEM partners and other ISVs can do to integrate them into their enterprise applications. By integrating and embedding BI functionality to their applications, ISVs can add considerable value to their customers.

4BIClientTools

This chapter provides an overview of the capabilities of the BI client tools – specifically, Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, Xcelsius and Explorer – as well as the capabilities of the BI platform. We also explore the many SAP BusinessObjects SDKs that are available to developers, and provide an extensive list of resources that are invaluable to OEM partners and ISVs. These resources range from best practices guides to SDK documentation and from tips and tricks to downloadable developer sample code.

I sincerely hope you will take the time to explore this new chapter (which will be posted at http://bestbuiltapps.sap.com/). If you have comments, feedback or questions, please send them to me or to the BBA team.

Thanks!
