October is fast approaching. I know in the SCN space, that means that everyone is getting excited about TechEd in Las Vegas and Berlin. For BusinessObjects people, this also means that it’s time for the annual ASUG SAP BusinessObjects User Conference (SBOUC). This might be news to many of you. If so, hopefully this is some good information for you. If you know what SBOUC is but aren’t planning on attending, please hear me out and see if you change your mind.
What is SBOUC?
SBOUC is the only Customer Led BusinessObjects-Only event of the year in North America. The content is chosen by ASUG Volunteers (customers) and preference is given to customer presentations over partners/vendors and SAP employees. It’s the single-most concentrated gathering of BOBJ industry leaders you’ll find on the continent. It’s two and a half days of expert presentations showing real-world solutions to BI challenges we all face daily.
Why should I attend?
Each day is filled from breakfast to dinner time with excellent content on just about every topic imaginable. BI Strategy, Data Mangement, Crystal Reports, Xcelsius, Webi, Deski, Infrastructure, you name it. The best of the best will be there giving their expert knowledge straight to you. Experts like Dave Rathbun, Dallas Marks, Simon To, http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/u/252006856 [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken], and CommunityPROFILES – Introducing Mico Yuk, our newest SAP BusinessObjects Mentor to name a few. I even just heard that Timo Elliot will be giving one of the keynote addresses.
At the end of each day, ASUG hosts a reception which is an awesome chance to network, meet with SAP Product Managers, and with Vendors and Partners who have cool 3rd-Party solutions. ASUG always has a Community Booth, where our Special Interest Groups get to meet face-to-face. It’s always a golden opportunity.
The SAP Booth always has lots of places to view the latest and greatest (and sometimes the newest) product offerings. It’s a chance to get hands-on and see what things look like and how they work, and ask questions to the folks that helped design it.
Most of the advanced things I know about BOBJ (i.e. clustering, trusted authentication, disaster recovery, virtualization) I have learned at past SBOUC conferences. Attending these sessions have shown me things that can be done, and taking that I have been able to provide a better service to my employer. By increasing my knowledge of BusinessObjects in depth, my company overall has logged fewer support tickets with SAP, and our downtime has decreased dramatically. This equates, in part, to better revenues for the firm. What employer wouldn’t like to hear that?
But this is an ASUG event. My company is BOBJ-only and we’re not ASUG members.
Say goodbye to that excuse. ASUG has announced the Valueship program, which has extended a complimentary individual full membership for BOBJ-only customers through December 2011. That means that you can join in and participate on ASUG.com and be able to attend events like the SBOUC.
And if you’re wondering what value an ASUG Membership brings to you as a customer, please go read this Whats the value of a ASUG membership for you as customer ?I can’t even begin to explain it better than Ingo did.
When and Where is SBOUC?
October 5th – 7th, 2010 at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This year we’re in the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. There are discounted rates for the hotel, and as an ASUG member, you can get discounted airfare from American Airlines to attend the event.
If you go REGISTER today, the early bird discount is still in effect.
Hope to See You there!
I hope this gave you a little more to consider. If you are a BOBJ developer, user, power user, administrator, or are a CIO or Head of BI, this is the one conference you don’t want to miss. I truly hope to see you there.
