Brazil’s NF-e – some reasons for implementing

More on Brazil’s NF-e (e-Bill of Lading) Requirements has a great idea of Brazil’s NF-e integrated with the whole EDI scenario.

In his article, Kevin has commented about Brazil’s NFe which has come to substitute the former paper version.

He points out it is a unique model to be studied by consultants and B2B companies that could offer tools to fill the gap between SEFAZ and ERPs.

In fact, the new NF-e is an authentication procedure you do every new sale you perform. In SAP, you normally create the NF (TAC: J1B3N) and when the output is created, the system sends the info to the messaging system instead of the paper. This messaging tool will communicate with SEFAZ, receive the feedback and if it was approved, you receive a hash-key which indicates the goods on the truck can travel to its destination.

However, the investment in electronic communication just happened till this point. Neither the trucks nor the Road Police have enough equipment to perform monitoring. So, when the NF-e is approved, companies still print a document called DANFE (Documento de Acompanhamento da NF-e) which can be printed in regular paper and contains a summary of that sale data and a bar-code to facilitate the goods transit.

Reading Kevin’s article is worthy reading for foreigners because it brings their view of this subject, before they start digging deeper to Brazil NFe.

  • I was told that the Notafiscal Electronica is being upgraded to a new version (2.0) – any idea what are the changes compared to the current version?

    • Hello Srini!

Actually this upgrade is taking place in the XML format. Currently companies use the 1.10 (if not the 1.0) version of this language. So, this latest version you mentioned take place in the XML file structure, rather than the NF-e Tool itself.
The new XML 2.0 brings new fields that were created in order to allow complete bounding to any messaging systems. Also, some fields were changed in order to bare is related data completely.
I guess the most significant change took place in the Access Key structure. Now, this structure will also include de Type of NFe Issuing, which will be added to the Nota Fiscal writer. Consequently, there was a change of the NF random number to 08 digits (previously 09 digits).
All these changes will affect the R/3 system. New BADis, changes to existing ones, new structures and new interfaces „³ classes. Still, another Brazilian Product, SPED (Electronic Book-keeping) will need to be adjusted to fit the latest needs.
All these changes are treated as Legal Compliance.
I hope I could solve your doubt. Please, let me know in case of any further questions!!
      Thanks and regards!

        • Sure,  Srini!

All the changes related to SAP products will be supported. Primarily, the OSS notes for the R/3 system. In case your Company uses GRC-NF-e messaging, then you sure will find specific Notes containing the necessary adjustments.
Yet, there are some specific XI/PI Notes which also deal with the SLD (System Landscape) affected points due to this upgrade. And they are a lot!!

Keep in touch!!  Anything you need, please let me know.

  • There are a large number of companies implementing NF-e in Brazil, others will do soon. I could participate in four projects and some of them were really challenging ! Depending on the company and the tools used may not be so simple for the Consultant, even the most experienced !

Thank you for sharing these informations, I’m looking forward to seeing more about that soon !

    Keep on blogging !
    Best regards,

    Marcelo Ramos

    • Wow! Thanks you Marcelo!

So you have been on my shoes before!
That’s it. Besides all the very delicate technical aspects, we also face an enormous number of issues due to lack of information, short deadlines which almost never fit the big Companies response time and, constant changes related to legal compliance.
I’ll do my best to cooperate to our colleagues and, post everything I think that might be useful.

      Thanks for the feedback!

    • Hi, Ivan!

These legal subjects are really effort demanding. Companies spend a huge amount of money to be compliant and, as deadlines are not so long (and in Brazil we do things in the edge of time) usually an extra effort and number of resources is needed.
I can tell you that one thing is sure for all the companies: the Oct 1st deadline to be compliant with the “New NF-e”. So, at least for this need, there will be contracting!
Besides,  we have different kinds of Companies. The big ones which hold a Team only with the duty of GRC-NF-e maintenance and, others that can’t afford a Team so, they follow the hire-on-demand model. I have worked for both kinds and I can tell you that, in the end,  the project style is more active and brings higher incomes.  But that’s my simple opinion, it is much more a thing about personal style.
So, if you thing about joining NF-e projects, WELCOME!!! You will feel great satisfaction!

      See ya,
