Federal Computer week identified a NOAA interactive map that tracks the Gulf oil spill.
It's called the Environmental Response Management Application
The disaster has been described as a slow moving hurricane. As it moves ashore, various levels of preparation are all supported by people, who need resources and supplies.
IF I were a business or government institution in the region, I’d like to use this type of map to see how either oil or govt resources applied will affect my community. Ie, additional space requirements to set up equipment, lodging or food requirements, supplies or equipment needs, coordination and local government support with federal or contract organizations, deconfliction of tasks.
Government can take advantage of using the "enterprise" strategy described in the DHS' Quadrennial Homeland Security Review in order to set the framework for continued collaboration.
