SAP Support Note Viewer for Android grows up (new version)

A couple of months ago I announced the launch of the first version of the SAP Support Viewer for Android at SCN. It was a good start, but it had one key problem related to scrolling the entire content of the note.

In the latest version 1.20 available now from Android Market this problem is fixed and many new features are added.

The video below gives a quick introduction to the app and its features

What’s new in version 1.20:
  * Scrolling problem fixed by modifying SAP HTML code on the fly
  * Favorite notes now include the title of the note
  * Share Notes by long-clicking on it in the list. This will allow you to easily share the note through e-mail, twitter or any other android app which support generic text intents
  *  (Android 2.2 only) Cloud to device integration. This allows you to read a note in your Google Chrome browser on the PC, click a button and have it sent directly to the SAP Support Note Viewer app on Android a few seconds later

In order to install it, search for SAP in the market application from your Android Mobile phone or the Android barcode scanner on the QR code below.

PS The source code of the application is available at  http://code.google.com/p/android-sap-note-viewer/

PSS The cloud to device integration requires the setup of the Chrome to phone extension and android app from http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/

      Hi Dagfinn,

Very nice app and video. For brief moments one can even see your face in the phone 😉

Cool tool that supports the mobile SAP worker looking for a service marketplace note.

      Thanks, Mark.

      Thank you Mark,

Always easier to explain the features of an application through a short video.

BTW The SAP Support Note Viewer for Android has just passed 500 installations.

      Regards
      Dagfinn

I recently did a presentation for Motorola (SAP customer) and showed them this running on my new Motorola Droid. They thought it was pretty cool!

Best way of spreading it is word of mouth, so thank you Harry.

      Hi Dagfinn,
This is a very nice app!  I like being able to store Notes as favorites.  However, I still seem to have a scrolling problem as areas are gray, and then turn black as I continue to scroll.

      Thanks,
      Steve

The on-the-fly HTML code modifications I make are not perfect and there are some problems with background colour. Still, the text should be readable at all times.

For the next release I will give the option to switch to the print view of the note ref.

The project will also be moved to the new SCN code exchange platform.

      Hi Dagfinn,

Great work on this... I wish I had an Android phone now, when will the iPhone version be available?!? 🙂

Just wanted to add a thought for a feature. For me it would be really useful to be able to get back a list of say the last 10 notes related to a specific application area (e.g. EP). That way I could always see what problems and fixes were current in any given area that interested me.

      Cheers,
      Simon

      Hi,

The code is available on http://code.google.com/p/android-sap-note-viewer/ so if anyone wants to port it to iPhone go ahead.

In the future the application will most likely be a community project on SAP Code exchange and perhaps the scope will then be to port it.

As an Iphone user you might be interested in the SAP myHelp application

With regards to your feature it seems like a very good idea, but I am not sure how to achive it. I am dependent on the SAP Notes system to support such functionality. Do you have any way of achieving this directly in your desktop browser?

      Regards
      Dagfinn

      Hi Dagfinn,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I know John from a previous life and he actually suggested I read your blog post! 🙂

The functionality I describe is not actually very easy in the browser, but it is possible to specify the application area and order the notes by most recent. Would be nice if SAP had an open API for this! 🙂

      Cheers,
      Simon
