How to number the records in a DeskTopMailer or Business Edition file
Do you need to add a number to each record in your database? Is the file too big for Excel? You can add a number to the records in your datebase with the DeskTop Mailer and Business Edition software.
When you import your file into the software it will add a record number to each record in the file. This is the index that we use when paging through your records when no index is selected. This number is not displayed in the software. However this number can be exported out of the file or printed on the finished piece. To print out this number on the labels or envelopes you just need to add the Record number field that is listed under the Other fields. Once this is added to the design file the number will print out for you.
To export this out of the file you just need to map this field on the Export Fields screen. This information is usually the top field on the Left Hand side of the screen. Click on the add field button and then map the Record Number on the top of the screen to the new field that was just added. Once this is mapped the record number will be added to the new file that is created. Remember that you can import this new file with the record numbers back into the software. The new file will display this number for you.
