SAP Labs, LLC was pleased to host Congressman Ron Kind on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 for a tour of the La Crosse, Wisconsin office to discuss the challenges faced by the USPS from declining revenues and mail volumes.  SAP's Postalsoft products depend on a financially healthy and viable U.S Postal Service so discussions centered on a bill in the House of Representatives aimed at payments to the Postal Service Retiree Health Benefits Fund as well as other options Congress may wish to consider that would provide the USPS with means to respond to a shifting market while preserving it as an independent establishment of the executive branch.

Joe Carty, Postal Industry Solutions Manager for SAP BusinessObjects lead the meeting with Representative Kind also attended by his Chief of Staff, Loren Kannenberg and various managers from the SAP Business Objects Postalsoft La Crosse team including John Peterson, Laura Bambenek, and Kris Sorenson.  We were able to express our concerns around the differing opinions from the USPS Office of Inspector General, Office of Personnel Management and Postal Rate Commission on the size of the USPS's future retireee health benefit obligations.  We discussed 5 day vs. 6 day delivery, options to increase USPS revenues, and the specific amendments to S.1507.  We are encouraged by Congressman Kind's depth of understanding on the key issues that face the USPS and his commitment to working on a resolution to this difficult problem.
