Quick start to BMC AppSight for SAP Client Diagnostics

Motivation.

 

At Australia Post we are always looking to exploit the value of Solution Manager and cut our support costs. The latest piece of innovation we have unlocked is the BMC AppSight for Client Diagnostics. This special version  of BMC AppSight is used to perform root cause analysis of the SAP end user's desktop.

 

As part of the SAP Solution Manager Enterprise Edition, you get a limited license for the Appsight console and the recording agent of BMC Appsight, known as the BMC "Black Box". The limited license is delivered with customised Recording Profile templates for SAP functionality. Additional templates may be requested by raising an XX-PART-APS note on the Service Marketplace.

 

Installation steps.

 

• 1. Download BMC APPSIGHT for SAP Client diagnostics. See SAPnote 1034901. Download from http://service.sap.com/swdc à Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group à SAP Technology Components à SAP SOLUTION MANAGER à SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.0 à BMC APPSIGHT 4 SAP CLIENT DIAG


• 2. In the solution Manager system, use transaction SU01 to create a new service user called SEP_WEBSRV and assign the SAP_SEP_INTERFACE role. Ensure the new role is active.

 

• 3. In the Solution Manager system, use transaction WSCONFIG and ignore the following warning message

  

Create service with AGS_CHECK_LICENCE_SEP as Service definition and variant



 

Choose ICF detail and double click on AGS_CHECK_LICENCE_SEP service.

Switch to change mode and enter the newly created user then save.



 

4. In the Solution Manager system, use transaction SICF to activate the new service. Ensure the Procedure is changed to "Required with Logon Data" and enter the User / password as created above.



 

5.     Install the AppSight Console and Black Box on your desktop by unpacking APS4SAPCDIAG1100_0-10004478.zip and running Select setup.exe

 

Choose custom install and select the options as per the following screen shot



Choose the file location recommended in SAP note 1034901

 

 

This process will install the Appsight console and the client Black Box

 

 

•6.     The first time you start BMC AppSight Client you need to register the URL to Solution Manager. The address should be as follows:-

 

http://hostname:8000/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/ags_check_licence_sep?sap-client=400

Pre-requisites.

Solution Manager SP12 or higher

Apply SAPnote 1145259 to Solution Manager
