So you know the datasource and would like to dig deeper to understand better…like whether it is on a table or function module? Which table / function module etc etc… 

Did you try using tcode RSA2 in your source system, trust me it is the most powerful tcode in source system from BW perspective and has all the information you need to or would like to know about datasource.

Needless to say try it on Sandbox, development system before attempting on production environment. See you next week!!!
