Before I joined the world of ERP vendors, I spent a lot of time working with small businesses to help them implemet ERP solutions and deploy networks and other IT infrastructure.

I often looked with envy at the bigger companies out there with their IT Management systems like Microsoft Systems Management Server or Operations Manager and I would bemoan the fact that there wasn’t something that I could deploy for my customers that would help me monitor and mange their infrastructure.

Thats no longer the case thanks to Spiceworks a tool (or set of tools) that to quote their home page is,  “the complete network management & monitoring, helpdesk, PC inventory & software reporting solution to manage everything IT in small and medium businesses”

And after implementing it to manage my own IT infrastructure (6 servers, 5 workstations, 4 Macs, 3 Wireless Access Points, 2 routers, a managed switch and a partridge in a pear tree) and helping a number of my small business owning friends to deploy it to manage their IT infrastructure, I would have to agree.

From an SAP Business One user or partners perspective, with many customers and partners wanting to manage and monitor aspects of their SAP Business One deployment like their SQL Server performance, the latest version of Spiceworks with its built in SQL Server monitoring plug-in, could be the tool youve been looking for to help you keep your systems humming along.

I would encourage you to take a look at Spiceworks – and the best thing about it is that it is totally free so check it out and let me know what you think – you’ll find me on the Spiceworks community as well – check out the newly started SAP Group on the Spiceworks Community.
