Have you ever wanted to create an “index” in a Crystal Report that allows you to link to groups that start with a certain letter or number? For example, go to the groups starting with the letter “J”.

Here is a sample that we created for you that has step by step instructions on doing exactly that. The index appears on the top of every page and has an entry for all of your existing groups.

When the end user clicks on a letter or number in the index, they are taken quickly to the first group that begins with that letter or number.

Report part linking is used which has its advantages.

1) there is no database hit to go to the report part

2) report part linking exists in most versions of Crystal Reports that have a web viewer so not just Crystal Reports 2008

3) going to the link target is very fast using Report Part linking

4) hyperlinks are automatically updated using this technique

The step by step instructions on how to use this technique in your situation are on the Design tab of the report itself. You can also publish the sample report that we created to your Enterprise environment to see this example working.
