Note on the changed schedule

Apologies to everybody whose schedules I am messing up - due to scheduling conflicts I had to change the time of both sessions:

  • The Web Dynpro session will be moved from Tuesday, 1:30 PM, to 5:30 PM on the same day.
  • The Development from Scratch session will be moved from Wednesday, 1:30 PM, to 3:30 PM on the same day.

I hope to see you at Vienna, and sorry for any inconveniences caused.

Introduction

Are you making the final arrangements for yourtrip to SAP TechEd 2009 in Vienna? I look forward to this exciting event which is, for me, the highlight of the SAP year. This year I’m hosting two Experts Networking Sessions in the SCN Community Clubhouse area and I would like to invite you to join them.

1. Web Dynpro Java as OpenSource? Open Discussion - Built on NetWeaver, Runs Everywhere

(Add this session to your personal agenda at http://www.sapteched.com/emea/activities/session.htm?id=460.)

The idea of Web Dynpro Java as OpenSource has been discussed a lot on SCN recently: Built on NetWeaver, Runs Everywhere could soon become a reality if we get the message across to SAP product management that customers and partners really want this to happen.

SAP worthies Benny Schaich and Jochen Gürtler have made some extremely interesting and encouraging contributions to the discussion, and I have written Web Dynpro as OpenSource: Built on NetWeaver, Runs Everywhere with my take on it and links to Benny’s and Jochen’s contributions.

Fellow SAP Mentor Anne K. Petterøe and (if all goes well) Composition Environment Platform Evangelist Benny Schaich will be joining us for this open discussion. Please drop in and share your views.

Time Tuesday, 1:30 PM Rescheduled: 5:30 PM
Location Networking Lounge 5 near the SCN Clubhouse

2. Enterprise Development from Scratch with ABAP and CE - Open Discussion and Exchange of Experience

(Add this session to your personal agenda at http://www.sapteched.com/emea/activities/session.htm?id=506.)

SAP NetWeaver is the underlying platform of the SAP’s business applications and an integration platform, but it is also an excellent platform for custom development. For years, partners and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) have been developing new solutions (or industry solutions) on top of the NetWeaver technology stack, be it by developing large ABAP-based SAP modules from scratch or by building Composite Applications with SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment.

SAP supports this by offering Developer’s Subscriptions, with the EcoHub initiative and, most recently, the Best-Built Applications initiative, an attempt to provide guidelines for ISVs.

I would like to use this session to bring together developers from ISVs and partners for an open discussion and exchange of experience on the topic of custom development with NetWeaver.

  • Which best practices have you derived from your work?
  • What are common problems?
  • Can we share solutions?
  • How can SAP support us better?

I will be co-hosting this session with fellow SAP Mentor Tobias Trapp (co-author of our SAP Press book “ABAP Objects: Application Development from Scratch”) and our colleague Florian Rothländer.
