Last year I visited SAP TechEd 2008 in Berlin and attended a lecture about “How SAP uses the SAP NetWeaver Portal as its Corporate Intranet Site” (UP110). As the speaker talked about how they produce their Intranet content and that SAP developed some kind of CMS for internal use there were many people in the audience raising their hands asking where they can buy this CMS. Sad to say that this tool is only for SAP’s internal use and will not be sold to customers.

During this year Gentics (http://www.gentics.com) asked us to delvelop a portal-connector to seamlessly integrate the navigation and content coming from their Enterprise CMS. Because this CMS is a pure Java Application and comes with a fast Java API layer it was not really an issue to develop a Portal Navigation Connector Service and a iView component to bring all the CMS content into the NetWeaver Portal. See the moving sample pictures (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp8hJaLN_Fg) what can be done with the Gentics Connector for SAP:

  • Seamless integration into SAP NetWeaver portal
  • Fully customisable by  Portal Content Administration Page
  • Adds Navigation Trees either on TOP-level or anywhere inside your role based navigation (merge feature)
  • iView displaying CMS content coming directly from CMS Database (no special Export to filesystems needed)
  • use the connector to automatically insert navigation and content into your portal or use the iView to compose any static portal page components
  • supports SAP Portals built in Navigation cache
  • inplace editing and publishing of pages
