Shortly after Mark wrote his SAP Mentor Nominations about the new nominations for SAP Mentors the mails began to fly and as usual I was amazed at how many questions there were around “can you nominate me”.
Now those of you who know me, know that I am the “Community Evangelist” and “Community Manager” for the SAP Developer Network which means my focus day to day is here inside SDN which is one part of the SAP Community Network. This also means that if someone wants me to nominate them they need to stand out very brightly from every other member of this over 1 million user not to mention the 1.7 million total users of the SAP Community Network.
In fact I certainly hope that everyone who tends to refer to the program as the “SDN Mentor” or “SCN Mentor” realize that this is a mistake? Please keep in mind that it’s the “SAP Mentor” program which indicates it’s scope, as the members stand out and are active beyond SCN (SDN, BPX, BOC, UA, ESC, etc.) as they should be, through personal blogs, speaking engagements and interactions with other communities as well. True that many of the mentors are highly active here in the various communities however they are also speakers at various events both from SAP and others. They organize their own events and they also take every opportunity to present they can to share their knowledge and expertise.
Many don’t think about points, which many of the mails I receive immediately point out to me that they have x number of points – frankly in regards to the SAP Mentors I could care less how many points they have I care more that they put forth additional efforts to present at events and share their ideas and visions around SAP technologies moving forward!
So I decided that from this point forward I won’t even consider someone a candidate for nominations if they don’t bother to at least sign up and present a sessions at SAP events let alone all the Contributing to contribute…. To be nominated as a Mentor in my opinion is one of the highest honors SAP can give to a member of the SAP Ecosystem let alone being seen as aCommunity Influencers 2008 within the SAP Community Network. So are you working to be recognized?
So with that said July 31, 2009 is coming have you signed up yet? We currently have 13 sessions submitted and have plenty of room for more!!!!
