Web templates are a combination of query results and HTML rendering. In the 3.x version or when running queries of the ABAP Stack .. the following architecture is seen… which is … I do understand that under BI7 there is a JAVA WAS engine that does most of the job – but am searching for an architecture diagram / idea for an architecture diagram that can explain the same in a lucid manner.

//weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/38633/webtemplatearchitecture.jpg|height=333|alt=Web template Architecture|width=468|src=https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/38633/webtemplatearchitecture.jpg!

The image looks crude but then I put it up in a very short time – excuses for the quality!!
What are these HTML rendering classes – these are classes that are created when you activate a web template – or attach them to a transport – you will see them LOIO / PHIO classes or something on those lines…

Here is where the Table modifier comes handy – it helps translate / play around with the HTML of the query output before it is displayed. But then only table grids are supported and it is not good practice to edit / meddle with the generated classes for web templates.

All this is fine – we now have an idea of how web templates are executed … how do we find out how well they run. It is usually a question as to how to find out statistics for a web template that contains say 20 query views of a web template and the actual query takes 20 seconds to run but the web template takes 60 seconds…

Lets get to the statistics part…
As usual go to RSRT..

//weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/38633/picture10.JPG|height=169|alt=RSRT|width=371|src=https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/38633/picture10.JPG!

here give the choice as HTML instead of LIST – then another box will open up below. There give your template ID in the following format.

template_id=<technical name of your template>

Also make sure that the Query / View box is empty

Now go to Execute and debug and select display statistics – and then you will have the statistics information for your web templates which will help you understand the world of web templates better.

    Hi Arun,

    Is it a coincidence that the screenshot from Query Monitor is 1:1 copy from my sessions presented on WISPub conferences?

    Regards,

      Extremely sorry for using an unauthorized image – have replaced the same with one from my system. Apologies once again.

      For the record :
      I did go through the original content of yours on the WISPUBS Reporting and Analytics 2007 conference and then have been using them pretty frequently in my projects also – saw a lot of questions / threads on viewing stats for web templates and thought that I might share the same with more people.
