SAP partners play a critical role as members of the SAP Community Network (SCN). That is why I make a point to ask partners why they participate in SCN and what they would recommend to enhance their current experience. Their response is surprisingly consistent– they actively participate in SCN because it provides them benefits such as:

  • a cost effective way to educate their employees on SAP’s technologies and stay on top of what SAP customers require
  • opportunities to demonstrate their expertise and thought leadership to the more then 1.6 million community members within SAP’s ecosystem …and then use their reputation to drive demand for their services and solutions
  • a chance to showcase their services and solutions in front of SAP’s customers through SAP’s marketing, branding and certification programs.

In addition to the current value that drives many to actively contribute to SCN, SAP partners have also suggested SCN enhancements that would:

  • increase ways to differentiate themselves through the quality, not just the quantity, of the content they contribute to the community
  • allow customers to more easily find content and information on their services and products
  • provide additional opportunities for them to “promote” their services and solutions directly to SAP’s customers.

Thus, recent enhancements to the SAP Community Network should be of particular interest to SAP partners. These offerings will extend the value partners already get through their active participation in the community– by, for instance, further lowering the cost of acquiring knowledge– and will also provide new opportunities to demonstrate their expertise, build reputation and generate leads.

Content rating    The newly implemented community rating and review system for many SCN assets, including library articles and eLearning, will extend the recognition for content contributions beyond points.  Now, the significant resource investment made by many of SAP’s partners who contribute high quality articles and white papers to the community will be recognized as demonstrating exceptional expertise and thought leadership– thereby expanding a partner’s reputation and attracting prospects and leads. Optimized search    SAP has optimized search through its new SCN Search 2.0 interface. Customers and prospects can now more easily and effectively find the high-quality content provided by partners. The new simplified interface allows search over all SCN assets, including articles, Wiki pages and forums threads; results can be sorted by relevance, date, or title, and narrowed using dynamic category filters. This new search will significantly lower a partners cost of acquiring knowledge, and will ensure that their investment in contributing thoughtful content to SCN will be noticed by customers and prospects.

Presence Packages  With the growth of the SAP Community Network and EcoHub, Presence Packages have evolved to provide partners a direct communication channel to showcase their solutions to the more then 1.6 million SAP Community Network members, and the 82,000 SAP customer companies that make up EcoHub. By sponsoring content on any of the SAP Community Network sites (including EcoHub, SAP Developer Network (SDN), Business Process Expert (BPX) and the SAP BusinessObjects Community (BOC)), or in SAP’s community newsletters, partners have the opportunity to promote their solutions relevant to SAP’s audience directly to decision makers and IT professionals in SAP’s installed customer base– thus raising their profile and driving targeted lead generation opportunities. We thank our partners for their investment in SCN and their valuable input which has had a significant impact on these recent community improvements– and we’d like to keep the dialogue going. Comment here or send us feedback on these enhancements and on what you would like to see in the future.

Also, more enhancements are on the way…so stay tuned!

Thank you for this post, Vicki.  I think it’s important to remind ourselves and other community members that

    1) partners are members of our community, too.  They provide a huge amount of content, answer forum questions, blog actively, sponsor events like TechEd, include their solutions in EcoHub, and so much more.  Individual employees of partners are some of the most active, engaged people in our community.

    2) We do alot to help our partners in the community.  We have a community category in the prestigious “Partner Pinnacle” award, we show “top companies” (primarily partners) in our Contributors Corner, we meet with partners to help them understand how to best leverage and utilize the community resources available to them, and much more.

Thank you for reminding us of the recent improvements to the SAP Community Network and the benefits and value to partners.

    Regards,
    Mark Yolton
