We conducted a performance test using SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 Enhancement Package 1 (EHP 1) for showing what improvements you can achieve when making use of the new performance relevant features like the advanced adapter engine, message packaging, and additional configuration options for orchestrated integration processes using the business process engine. For the test typical customer integration use cases such as SOA scenarios, batch data transfers, and cross-component business process management (ccBPM) have been chosen. These have been performed in a medium-sized hardware environment which corresponds to common sizing of customer installations.
The results demonstrate that SAP NetWeaver PI is an enterprise-ready, scalable, SOA middleware solution for high-volume scenarios. With SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 (EHP 1) you can process 325 small messages per second and beyond (or calculated to 28 million messages per day) by utilizing some of the performance-enhancing features. This is helpful if speed is a crucial factor for your business. If throughput is more important, the test results showed that you can process 23.57 MB per second, or a calculated daily throughput of more than 1,988 GB.     Really nice performance messures and description of the reasons behind them.
    Is a computer with 10 CPU’s the average deployment size? How does CPU cores fit into this perspective.

    HI Katrin Ahsen ,
    Thanks for the valuable information you have shared.i have one specific query on server sizing.
    Lets say for minimum configuration as suggested by SAP ,I have 2 CPU”S with 3GB Ram on each which comes to total 6GB RAM.What is the volume of message in siz and messages per second  that PI71 can handle?

      Hello Chandra,
      The throughput highly depends on the type of integration scenarios you are planning to run with SAP NetWeaver Process Integration. When using mappings, ccBPM processes the throughput is lower than for simple pass throughs. Due to this reason the calculation is done the other way around: Analyze what kind of integration scenarios including estimated message size and throughput the PI system would need to handle. With this information you can then calculate the proper system sizing using the quicksizer tool (http://service.sap.com/quicksizer).
