Are you an integration expert on a project and want to refresh your knowledge about SAP NetWeaver Process Integration?
Are you a beginner in the topic and like to become familiar with the basic concepts?
Do you need an overview of the topic and the available information sources?
Check out the Process Integration Handbook (PDF 2 MB)!
It provides both an introduction to the key concepts of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration and a detailed overview of the tasks and tools that come into play in integration projects.
Used as printout, the handbook provides – in one place – the description of the key concepts and relevant tools.
Used online, it provides a rich compilation of links and references that help you to get access to the relevant chapters of the SAP Library documentation.
I like the article. It is a great place to start and get inspired by to start with integration.
One problem is the article is created 30 june 2009 (according to the first page), and that is first tomorrow.
thanks
Daniel
thanks for the feedback!
And... oh you found the most exposed (and hopefully the only) typo. Yes the date was wrong and doesn't mean that we have found out how to inverse the time arrow...
Sorry for that!
Peter
Thanks for this document, it is excellent as an overview of the application and very usefully thanks to the inserted links in every chapter.

Gr8 job done, the document is very well compiled and would be very useful while evaluating SAP PI 7.1 for client. It's nice to have some of the success stories at one single place..

Can we have PI effort estimation matrix guidelines in this document based on technical and functional parameters in this document or may be as a different blog ? There is no sufficient documentation for the same.

Yes. It pretty much talks for the basic scenarios. I was referring to some of the parameters like "type of mapping" , "number of fields and nodes in a data type" , "Need of UDFs" , "Simple/conditional routing" , "Config / customization needed at ABAP end " and many others to estimate the overall complexity of a particular interface. Estimation would obviously differ on case to case basis but a general guideline document about these factors will be of a great use. Even in the initial phases of the project. "Implementation" point of view , yes, it will be interface specific estimation. But going beyond that while making proposals/interface strategy documents such estimation guidelines will be great help.
Thanks & Regards,
Sayali
I agree, it would be helpful to have some estimations/checklists related to different entity types or parameters you can use with SAP NetWeaver PI.
Maybe you would like to take a look into the how-to guide "SAP NetWeaver Process Integration Best Practices: Design" (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e0715b1d-68a6-2b10-9f8f-86c5b059cb18).
This guide provides best practices for designing interfaces, data types, mappings and integration processes in the ES Repository lead into the direction you are heading for.
For example, it might help answering the question which mapping type you should use for a specific scenario.
Hope that helps!
Best regards and thanks for the input!
