The ES Workplace, SAP's hosted, pre-configured, and ready-to-run SOA system landscape for enterprise services exploration, testing and consumption has got a couple of updates you should not miss.

First of all, there is now a simplified testing capability available for all synchronous enterprise services shipped together with SAP ERP 6.0: A link in the Technical Data WSDL section of a service operation page opens the respective service interface WSDL in the Web Services Navigator (WS Navigator). WS Navigator is a testing tool provided by SAP NetWeaver. With its Web UI you can enter testing data for all synchronous enterprise services for SAP ERP 6.0 that are available in the ES Workplace. These input parameters are then being sent to the corresponding back-end IDES system in real time, and the response message comes back in real time as well. For an overview of all applicable enterprise services, check the process components of SAP ERP 6.0 in the ES Workplace. All these enterprise services plus all those from other SAP Business Suite solutions are in unrestricted shipment, effective immediately.

Please note that using the WS Navigator requires registration. After completing the registration form you will receive a user ID and password that is valid for all back-end systems in the ES Workplace testing environment. You may use this user ID also to access the back-end systems via SAP GUI for HTML to check for appropriate testing data. Links to the SAP GUIs for HTML for all available testing systems can be found here.

However, the easiest and probably most intuitive way of testing enterprise services consumption in a real world environment are Simple Sample Apps (please see the recently published SAP releases Simple Sample Applications for Enterprise Services Consumption). After releasing the first twelve Simple Sample Apps in mid March, we received a lot of valuable feedback, which has been influential for developing the next wave. The following six new apps are available in the ES Workplace, effective immediately:

  • Create Project and Related Sales Order
  • Search and Create Customer
  • Create Service Execution Order
  • Assign Work Center
  • Create Leave Request
  • Approve Leave Request

Once again, these Simple Sample Apps represent very common business process steps that consume some of the most popular enterprise services shipped with the SAP Business Suite 7. The underlying SAP NetWeaver platform for the ES Workplace system landscape has just been upgraded to version 7.11 SP2, which enables you to test Simple Samples Apps with the latest enhancements of SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment.

The ES Workplace is an unmatched environment, and SAP is committed to continuously enhance it according to your needs. This is why we are eager to learn from your usage experiences. I therefore cordially invite you to participate in this online survey (please note that an S-user for SAP Service Marketplace is required to access the form). This should take not more than 15 minutes of your time. Your feedback will be most appreciated. I encourage you to check the ES Workplace for updates frequently, it will be worthwhile.
