Today, with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and Composition Environment for SAP NetWeaver 7.1, JDBC iViews and applications are supported using a generic 3rd party driver that is provided with both SAP NetWeaver Portal and SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer. The driver connects to all third-party databases supported by SAP (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2).

Since the supported third-party database vendors provide JDBC drivers with the same or improved functionality, we (SAP) have decided to remove the generic driver from SAP NetWeaver 7.2 so that the customer can implement database connectivity directly using the, native drivers supplied by their database management system. All this means is that you download the appropriate driver, or drivers, from the website of your third-party database provider and configure it to work with your NetWeaver 7.2 installations. Detailed, step-by-step instructions are available here

We (SAP) will of course continue to support JDBC connectivity issues that you might encounter now or in the future.

Last but not least, ensure a smooth upgrade of the JDBC content from your current NetWeaver installation (e.g. NetWeaver 7.0) to NetWeaver 7.2, by testing your third-party database drivers as soon as possible with your current NetWeaver installations.

All the best!
Dafna
