In the current economic downturn it is more important than ever for Chemical companies to drive process excellence, reduce operational costs and minimize net working capital to meet challenging cash flow requirements. But it is also essential to develop the strategic flexibility which allows rapidly taking advantage of new opportunities in the market like making attractive acquisitions, moving into promising new product segments or establishing an advantageous position in the emerging markets.

 

To achieve aforementioned goals means overcoming the traditional application centric view of IT architectures typically requiring large scale implementations and regular, costly upgrades to ensure alignment between the modular building blocks and, instead, moving towards strategic, natively integrated business processes which run on a single platform and span across functional and corporate boundaries.

 

Now, with the advent of Business Suite 7 and its underlying architecture, SAP is able to realize the lessons learned from its customers and offer a complete set of end to end business processes for the Chemical Industry which specifically target at the major pain points of the most important Lines of Business. The processes are clustered in business process categories (see below):

Each business process category provides a set of end to end business processes, called “Value Scenarios” which are typically built upon 3-5 implementable steps, hence allowing for a stepwise adoption with focus on quick return on investment, rather than requiring “big bang” implementations (a more detailed of the value scenarios within the process categories will follow in subsequent blogs).

 

To drive further enhancement of these Value Scenarios customers can “pick and choose” from future Enhancement Packs which will be delivered by SAP on a regular basis for the entire Business Suite. On top of this customers have the flexibility to build proprietary, differentiating elements into their business process landscape through leveraging the Composition Environment of the Business Suite. Overall these enhancement capabilities enable a non disruptive process innovation while still ensuring reduced Total Cost of Ownership.
