Using NW Enterprise Search for corporate Search within SAP NetWeaver Portal
Solution
SAP Netweaver Enterprise Search (NWES) is now accessible within the SAP NetWeaver Portal (usage type enterprise portal).
The portal brings an easy to configure access to the Enterprise Search and therefore provides a secure cross system search access to enterprise systems. Of course only search results that comply with the user`s authorizations are returned.
Enterprise Search provides a fast and secure "Google-like" search that is able to join structured and unstructured data across applications and systems. In this way it brings a simple access to all connected applications across system boundaries.
The integration works for defined product versions and requires configuration steps.
The Configuration comprises largely 4 main steps:
- Configure NWES System as Backend System in the portal
- Switch on NWES search in enhanced Tool Area iView
- Configure Result iView
- Configure SSO for Portal - NWES connection

Once you have done the configuration the ToolAreaiView in the Portal Header will point to the Search UI of NWES instead of using the KMC indexmanagement service.
The results are then displayed within an iView that shows the Enterprise search UI.
The result can also contain KM search results if you have configured a KMC connector.
The display of the categories as well as the search result list is user dependent and needs authorization checks. Therefore a trusted relationship between NWES and the portal has to be established by importing portal certificates into NWES AS.
Availability
The NWES Integration into the Default Framework Page is available with NW 7.00 SP18 and NWES 7.00 SP3 and higher. For configuration of these releases also see note 1317520.
The integration within the new Ajax Framework Page is planned to be available with NW 7.2 . This is the search input field within the new portal look and feel (based on the new SAP Signature Design):
