SAP Mentor Michael Koch is interested in understanding what certification means to independent contractors and freelancers. This is an important community within the SAP community so their views matter.

Michael presented the results of a survey he recently undertook among this group at this weekend’s Inside Track event in London.

The results of the survey can be found at Michael’s website.

I was interested in understanding Michael’s motivation for undertaking the survey and his view about where this topic goes from here. I was also interested in reactions from other Mentors. BPX’er https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/u/251800992 [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] takes a contrarian view, arguing that experience beats out certification every time. Martin Gillet on the other hand sees value in certification but believes chaneg is essential. The counterpoint between the two demonstrates different perspectives that seem typical of the SAP universe.

I’ve captured each response in the above video.Enjoy.

Dennis, thanks for this. Presenting a diversity of viewpoints on certification from the independent consultant community is really valuable.

We need more data of this kind. I’m going to look into some other options in terms of surveying the SAP customer community for their viewpoints on SAP certification also. To me, you can’t benchmark for future progress without real data. I’m looking forward to reviewing Michael Koch’s survey results. I’ll withhold further comment for now until I have a look at his information which is now posted.
