A few months back, one of our intrepid consultants got a…well…unusual request from one of our large customers.  I wasn’t there, but it probably went something like this:

Customer: Hey, SAP-daddy, I’ve got something for you to do.

Consultant: Sure, boss, no problem…we’re here to assist!  What is it I can do for you on this fine day?  And when I’m done, can I shine your shoes, too?!

Ok, so I may have an overactive imagination sometimes.  What really happened is that SAP NetWeaver 7.0 was being installed at this customer and their Security Audit team requires that all executables be documented and described.

As a former consultant myself, this time I do not have to imagine what went through the consultant’s head:

You want what?

Now an assignment like this really…ahhh…stinks…but I can understand how an auditor could make such a request (don’t get me started on auditor stories), especially to a consultant from the software vendor itself.  And this assignment is not easy in the least!  Sure, documenting disp+work and startsap are pretty easy, but where are you going to get a description of rscpf3f?

You might say “Matt, rscpf3f, what the heck is that?”  And that is the exact point of the audit assignment.   Unfortunately, even inside SAP, finding out what some of the programs are is not easy: we do not have a master list sitting around.  Or, maybe we do.  And that’s my point.  In any company the size of SAP, your people network is just as important as your information network.  So, our consultant started out on this assignment that most of us would call ridiculous (and some on SDN did).  Thanks to him, I can now deliver his work to you.  Here it is, if you ever wanted to know, a list of SAP NetWeaver executables.

Disclaimer:  This culmination of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 executables was gathered using several methods including help.sap.com, SAP Service Marketplace, Google, Wikipedia, and the help of many colleagues in SAP Support and Development.  The list was derived from an active NetWeaver 7.0 system on AIX 5.3 using a DB2 v.9 database on a z/OS mainframe.  This is not an official SAP document.

Further Disclaimer: This list is not subject to your license agreement or any other agreement with SAP. This list and SAP’s strategy and possible future developments are subject to change and may be changed by SAP at any time for any reason without notice. Ok, now that that’s out of the way…

    Matt,

You have done great job, hard to find information. I was scratching to find info on memlimits in google landed up in SDN. Pretty good work.

    Thanks for your efforts!
