The new Business Rules Framework plus (BRFplus) homepage is up and running.

BRFplus is a business rules engine developed in ABAP. It provides a comprehensive application programming interface (API) and user interface (UI) for defining and processing business rules. It allows you to model rules in an intuitive way and reuse these rules in different applications. BRFplus can be enhanced in the backend and the UI.

On the BRFplus Home page, you can find a link to the new Business Rule Framework plus, which contains papers and videos. In the coming weeks, we will add further documents, such as overview papers, tutorials and use case descriptions.

    hi Carsten

we are looking at using BRF (not BRFPlus as we dont have NW07 EHP1) to implement some rules that will be shared by interfaces (BAPIs) and online transaction enhancement screens – I’ve had a play with BRF and it looks pretty easy to use and the trace tool looks good. I have a couple of questions…

Will the BRF impact our interface performance significantly? (we need to create about 10000 documents from file daily that require validation via BRF)

will we have to recreate our rules manually once we get BRFPlus?

    thanks
    john

      Hi,
I am a developer in the BRF tool and may answer your question.
      1.Performance
Thats really hard to answer. There is definatly an overhead for running BRF. Especially because it is object oriented, you have a lot of overhead for object instanciation and so on. But we have buffering mechanism and we are reusing object instances top reduce the overhead as far as possible. At the end it depends also on the implementation of BRF in the application. E.g. do you process 1000 documents in one LUW or do you have a different LUW for each document(this would effect reause of objects).
      2. Migration
This depends also on the implementation.
The migration of the objects is up 90% automatically.
If you stick to the standard and reduce the use of function modules as far as possible, you can reduce the migration effort later on.
But there will be manual task to do. Thats for sure.
I hope this helps a bit.
      BR

        Hi Lars

thanks for such a quick response!

we will be able to manage our interface validations in 1 LUW (validation is done outside the BAPI)

We are planning to install ABAP EhP 4 fairly soon which I think contains BRFPlus so we wont have developed too much in BRF – we’ll avoid using function modules

        thanks again
        john
