Overall master data quality and accuracy has always a bottom-line and a top-line impact all across organizations. But while MDM strategists may speak in generic terms, such as master data consolidation, master data harmonization, or central master data management when it comes to tackling the master data challenge, these concepts do not neccesarily ring a bell to people who are tasked with e.g., producing the new annual paper edition of the company’s product catalog, or an electronic Web catalog. Nonetheless, the overall MDM implications contained in such a task are the same. The product information management (PIM) business scenario outlined here may help the catalog producers to understand the overall benefit of having MDM in place.
