first I’d like to thank for having again the opportunity to attend the SAP TechEd 2008 in Berlin. Thank you for the great conference you put up again !
the ICC an architectural milestone in Berlin.
It was really thrilling for me that the TechEd this year took place inour capital Berlin, and at the same time it was really challenging to use public transport to find my way around here. Everything (except the TechEd itself) was kind of historic first because I arrived at Tempelhof airport which made the existence of a free Berlin possible over years during the “Luftbrücke”-era – pittyfully this airport is going to be closed down in advantage of Berlin Schoenefeld, so a part of the spirit of “ich bin ein Berliner”will be lost – but times are a changing.
Second, the ICC (for which we offered a SAP CRM implementation not long ago…)
is an architectural milestone of the 70ies – which can be felt until now – it still is looking futuristic – isn’t it ?
and due to these architetural efforts I had quite some problems to find all the interesting places during teched on time (to be honest I’ve never been late to a session until this year).
After Steve Winwood finished his concert (which was better than I expected – I am not really a fan of the kind of music that is performed at the Teched evening events in general). I and a friend I made at this years Teched went to the “Hackerschen Hoefe” to a club named “Dante” – and partied with Berlin youngsters ’til 3 a.m.
Well I’m in my end-thirties now, so the tribute for staying up that long was loosing the first lecture on Thursday- I will have to learn “Best practices to design Adobe Interactive Forms” from the presentation download 😉 now. But I guess I would do it again – capital partying is just different.
I met a lot of people I know at the TechEd and was (again)really impressed how easy it is to get in touch with people.
as every TechEd I have been visiting, also this years’ Teched satisfied my expectations, specially because I had concrete questions regarding current projects that I could state to the experts at the SAP Solution pods – thanks to you guys!
This year I concentrated on lectures rather than on hands on workshops because I have been alone at the teched, and my job was to bring back back as much information as possible.
My topics where Portals, Webdynpro-J , SSO, Adobe IF and of course ABAP.
In the portals, and Webdynpro-J environment there were mainly enhancements
that were to be expected like tinyMCE (which is well known for some time) and AJAX
support in WDJ.
The SSO topic was a little bit to hard a selection for me – I first have to catch up with this a little.
The Adobe IF hands-on I attended was really good because the scripting functionality
combined with the examples where really profitable for me.
The hands-on on memory sufficent programming in ABAP was also a blast, even though it will surely take sometime until anyone in our company will see a production system supporting these features.
I am eager to use all the new knowledge I collected during this Teched and look forward to October 27th 2009 – in Vienna.
PS: The club there is called “Flex” www.flex.at and is located directly at the Donaukanal – been there in 2005.
