The SAP® Central Process Scheduling application by Redwood for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 enables you to schedule real-time, event-driven background tasks in response to critical business events – and to do it from a central location. The software enables full integration of IT process automation with SAP business solutions including the SAP ERP Financials solution, the SAP NetWeaver® Business Intelligence component, and the SAP Solution Manager application management solution. The combined functionality of SAP Central Process Scheduling and SAP Solution Manager helps you to streamline groups of business processes and results in powerful functionality for process management and control.
A successor to applications that provide only local process scheduling, SAP Central Process Scheduling enables centralized management across the landscape and control of processes supported by both SAP and non-SAP software.
The download of the SAP Central Process Scheduling java application will be possible from SAP Service Marketplace as of November 2008. The basic version of SAP CPS can be used right away. For the enterprise version customers have to address their SAP sales contact. (For a detailed feature overview of both versions see Scheduling).
Business Scenario Example: Managing your financial close with SAP Central Process Scheduling and SAP ERP Financial Closing Cockpit
Let’s consider an example of how SAP Central Process Scheduling can help a company better handle its current processes. Corporate governance imperatives require greater control and supervision of the financial close and reporting cycle. Additionally, companies looking to decrease the overall cost of finance may strive for more automation, efficiency, and process standardization.
The financials department, however, must overcome several unique challenges to optimize their efficiency. Time windows for closing cycles are very small, since the performance-intensive allocations processing cannot start before payroll accounting ends; calculating these allocations earlier could mean using incorrect or incomplete numbers.
To achieve a fast financial close, then, companies must complete multiple process steps correctly, on time, and in the correct sequence. Any gap in communication may cause delays that place closing deadlines in jeopardy.
The SAP ERP Financials Closing Cockpit has helped mitigate some of these issues simply by bringing the overall management of the closing cycle to a single user interface (UI). The resulting transparency facilitates wider collaboration and allows users to quickly spot and resolve problems and bottlenecks. The Closing Cockpit’s UI displays all key process tasks, dependencies, workflows, task owners, and their statuses.
When you use this functionality in conjunction with SAP Central Process Scheduling, you reap the added benefit of its scheduling and monitoring functionality, which integrates with multiple types of financial software for both SAP and non-SAP applications. This means that you can coordinate and monitor closing tasks across complex software landscapes, greatly reducing the likelihood of errors and schedule delays. SAP Central Processing also allows users to control processes, correct task sequencing, and manage the closing cycle.
Technical Scheduling Scenario: Extend Functionality of the Job Scheduling Management within SAP Solution Manager
SAP Central Process Scheduling extends the functionality of the work center for job scheduling management within SAP Solution Manager. By adding a process scheduling adapter component, you gain the ability to submit and monitor SAP and non-SAP workloads through SAP Central Process Scheduling, streamlining your job scheduling and management tasks.
Direct peer-to-peer communication between SAP Solution Manager and SAP Central Process Scheduling means that you can release any SAP jobs or job chains defined in the central process scheduling environment through the work center. You can monitor the jobs with business process monitoring functionality, which features automatic alert notification and error handling for efficient exception handling. This functionality is not limited to scheduling SAP software workloads – You can use it to manage enterprise-wide scheduling within your organization.
