After delivery of SAP Netweaver 7.0 the ABAP group at SAP of course did not stop to further improve the ABAP Language and its programming einvironment. At preceding TechEds, these news have already been presented. Some highlights are decimal floating point numbers, secondary indices for internal tables, extended expression and string handling and a lot of major tool improvements.
But up to now all these features have only been available on
SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.1. I.e. only a few applications and customers could profit from these features. And the rest of us?
At session COMP209 of TechEds 2008 and during a live demo session at SDN day at TechEd Berlin the ABAP group announces the following:
Because of the high demand for these new features most of the ABAP features developed for Release 7.1 and its Enhancement packages are currently being
backported to SAP EHP2 for SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.0. They will then be available in
SAP Business Suite 2009.
If you want to have a closer look on the things to come to a broader developer community soon, have a look at the following release infos for Release 7.1. With the exception of the new operational package concept, the refactoring tool, and class based exceptions for RFC all news listed there will be available in Release 7.0, EhP2!
