Banking business on change: payment processing

Banking business is adapted to local commodities regarding commercial and retail customer behavior. Changes in regulations and customer behavior affected the value position of payment processing. The need for high volume processing initiated discussions about platform, applications, interfacing, and flexibility. Details about first customer success regarding SAP payment engine are disclosed.

With the introduction of the Euro as payment currency back in 2006, international payment processing required a reformation as well. Before that time service fees for international payment processing were considerable different from the national payment processing fees. With the introduction of SEPA banks had to revalue their business process value positioning.

Around Sibos 2007 Adoption of Trends (3) (Standardization and industrialization in payments processing). Besides of a large variety of technology and application related business opportunities, out- and insourcing of banking payment processing became a important banking business performance consideration. So did German Postbank and offered its payment processing services to some larger German banks.

With its engagement during the development phase of SAP’s payment engine, German Postbank was best prepared to be the first live customer of this new application. At the SAP Banking at Sibos in Vienna (1): we are there launched a press release. To get an impression of this business opportunity you can view a short and a long version of a video.

In “Bank System Technologies” issue of September 22, 2008 new entrants into banking business like paypal and ebay are described. In the light of the decrease in check processing business non-bank competitors raise the bar.
