Product Material Vendor Customer Employee (PMVCE) are the 5 main master data objects currently coming as Standard Repositories with SAP MDM.

But as MDM no longer remains a new comer or a buzzword in the IT world, more and more organizations are now trying to explore the use of managing their master data not only for their standard objects “PMVCE” but also very specific master data objects. To model these scenarios, not only in depth technical expertise would be required but also a lot functional knowledge. The aim of the blog is to try to generate a list of master data objects beyond PMVCE.

  1. Geography / Location
This object can cut across your organization and bring standardization in addresses, physical locations of warehouses & plants etc.
  2. Assets and Services
Managing Asset or Service master data like computers, hardware, maintenance  service etc effectively can yield lot of cost savings by reducing your actual number of assets by de-duplication and cleansing
  3. Transport
Transportation master data can include your air, rail, road, water transport details of your assets. This data is generally spread across geo’s and business units and single consolidated view of the same is missing.
  4. MRO / Spare Parts
This master data object is slightly different from your Raw Materials but equally important. Material Repairs and Operation or Spare parts data can include item details of supporting materials like grease, nuts, bolts etc for actually manufacturing of the product. Again, this master data is available in silos thereby adding cost of maintenance.

  5. Natural Person
This is not limited only to your employees but any human being like retailer, distributor, agent etc that you might be interacting with.
  6. Patient
This master data is specific to the Health Care industry. It differs from Natural person as the organizations like hospitals, pharma companies etc not only have to store the basic data of patients like name and address but also their medical history and records as part of their master data.

  7. Energy Meter Master data
Managing Meter Master Data is becoming more n more important for the E&U companies to adhere to compliance requirements. One can model a repository in SAP MDM specific to handle such master data.

  8. Business Partner Risk Management
While dealing with your vendors / customers, you would definitely like to know the credit history, its legal battles, bankruptcy fillings etc and manage it as part of your business partner master data. This scenario can be handled in SAP MDM using enrichment service from 3rd party data providers.
