How to install MDM in your Desktop/Laptop on Windows OS
Coming from XI/PI background I never thought that instillation of MDM is so easy it will take just 15 minutes to configure all the required setup. Interestingly we don’t require WebApplicationServer to install MDM.More over we don’t have any post installation steps which still makes easier to complete the installation. Before we starting installing we need to make sure that we have the following components available for us to successful MDM set up.
Hardware Requirement:
You should have minimum of 2 GB RAM and 60 GB Hard Disk. For any other Hardware info you can have a look at service market place.
Software Requirement:
Operating System -> Windows.
Database -> MS SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2 or MAXDB
MDM Software ->MDM Server and other Client software are like Console, Import Manager, DataManager, Syndicator, and Image Manager.
I have breakdown the installation process into three steps
STEP 1.
We need to install Database. I am using SQL Server 2005. I will download the SQLServer software from the software dumps of my company .Once I finish the download now I need to Install and setup the database. So I go to setup.exe file which is in SQLServerDev2005 folder and double click it to start the installation process.
Next two steps are installation prerequisites and welcome to Microsoft SQL server installation wizard steps for which screen shot are not posted here. after these two steps it will start installing the required components which shows the status of the each components. we can ignore the one with Warnings. You have option to see the report of the installation components.
continue by clicking on “Next” in next screen we need to Select Database services – This is sufficient for MDM
here we will select the database Instance we have two options I am selecting default one .If you want you can select the your own named Instance.
Select the “Build in local System” option . You can uncheck “Analysis services” as it is optional. Click on Next
On this screen, select the Mixed Mode, and then type an “SA” password.
Enable the TCP/IP status if it is not done.
Once you have finished the installation of the SQL server we can see the SQL Server has been started which is in the green and running state. If you have not activated the SQL server browser and SQL Server Agent these are in red if you want you can start it.
STEP2.
Follow the link to install MDM (use service market place ID)
https://service.sap.com/swdc. As we have installed the database. Now we need to install the MDM server.
” Once we select and click on run it starts the installation.
Click on Next to move next step of installation
Next two steps are selecting backup directory and accelerator directory after that we will have below screen shot
Click on Next to start the installation process
Click on Finish to complete the installation. Once we finsish the installation We can see as MDM Server has started.
Once we have completed the installation of the server. We can install the GUI clients that are required. Such as console, Data manager etc based on your requirements and which GUI you want to work with. GUI installation is as simple as next, next, finish at the end.So I have not included the screen shots for these.
Once successfully installed we can see the icons on the desktop
STEP3.
After installing the GUI clients which are required to work with MDM. We will start with MDM server from the console. Once we get the Console opened we have to mount the server.
Enter the server details.
Once done successfully we can see MDM server running. Now we are Ready to Rock with MDM
