In session LCM202: "What IT Professionals Need To Know about SAP Enhancement Packages" we will focus on the architecture, technology facts and implementation procedure of SAP enhancement packages. As you might already know SAP enhancement packages represent a new software delivery strategy that allows you to get innovations on top of SAP ERP 6.0 without the need for fully upgrading your current release. With SAP enhancement packages, the methodology for implementing new functionality has significantly changed. This session outlines the basic ideas of the new concept and the implementation procedure for SAP enhancement packages for SAP ERP. Getting familiar with these procedures will help you to minimize implementation efforts and leverage the new technology.

During this two hour lecture my colleague kathrin.winkmann/blog and I will provide you the newest insights in the development of the new Upgrade tool which will have a new GUI Layout and a simplified upgrade procedure. We will show you that the proven (ABAP) System Switch Upgrade Technology is also available for Java upgrades and that the upgrade steps for Dual Stack Systems are now merged into one process and are handled with one common UI.
Furthermore we will give you some hints how to implement SAP ERP Enhancement Package 3 during or after your upgrade project. Since SAP ERP 6.0 SR3 you have the possibility to bind SAP Enhancement Package 3 into your upgrade. If you are already on SAP ERP 6.0 then you can use the SAP Enhancement Package “Switch” Installer which is a new tool to install SAP Enhancement Package 3 into your system.
In addition we will share our SAP best practises to manage technical upgrade projects successfully. Therefore we will give you an idea about the factors which can influence your expected downtime and of course we will hand out the latest statistics regarding upgrade downtime. Besides that we will show you an example how to plan an upgrade project and make you sensitive which technical prerequisites will be necessary before your technical upgrade.
