Last week I traveled to China for two days of planning meetings at SAP Labs China in Shanghai getting ready for SAP TechEd Shanghai as well as a day in the SAP Dalian Office to work with the team there to support our upcoming plans to provide greater local support on SDN, BPX, and the Business Objects Community to the Asia Pacific region – particularly Chinese and Japanese language.

During the trip, I was regularly sending text and photo Twitter messages to keep colleagues and friends updated.  I thought you might be interested in both the content and the process.  It was an experiment, but would be great to have others give it a try as well!

I used three different Twitter-compatible tools that make sending these very easy:

  • TwitterBerry – a Blackberry application that lets you read and post tweets directly from your Blackberry
  • TwitPic – a web application that lets you post photos as tweets.  When you sign up for TwitPic, it gives you a unique email address.  From there, I simply take a photo on my Blackberry and email the JPG to my unique TwitPic email address.  It takes the subject line, creates the new tweet and embeds the URL for the photo in the tweet.  You see a lot of these below.
  • Twhirl – a desktop application similar to IM that has a window showing the stream of tweets from people I am following and lets me post messages.

@ccmehil created a way of tracking an event and having conversations around that in twitter called: eventtrack .  I guess your event could have been called chipinchina .  Enjoyed your tweets and pics.
