MDM Development together with RIG and Competency Center recently ran a project where we examined different failover mechanism for different types of MDM landscapes. The main focus was on verifying that a master/slave landscape, like we deal with in an SRM-MDM Catalog scenario, can operate in a failover environment. So far the usage of virtual hostname and virtual IP was not supported for master/slave landscapes. As of SAP MDM 5.5 SP6 patch 2 hot fix 8 (Build 5.5.62.56), this restriction has been resolved.

The results of the project went into the latest MDM Solution Operation Guide. The High Availability chapter has been completely revised. It provides you with guidelines and recommendations on how to set up an MDM failover environment. In general, we distinguish between two approaches, either a pure MDM mechanism or the usage of Cluster SW. The guide examines all possible approaches, and emphasizes their respective advantages and disadvantages.

In searching for MDM Failover documentation, I stumbled across your Blog entry, and the RIG webinar presentation @ http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c06943e3-e881-2b10-ada0-ec469085ca14, and also this schedule of RIG Knowledge Enablement sessions at http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/20fa2eab-ef4a-2b10-9397-f6f514e559dc

Are these webinars open to customers, or only RIG members?  Is there a schedule for 2009 posted?  These look like really useful webinars… I’m in the process of hunting down some of the other presentations from 2008 now….

    Thanks!
    Rich
