The SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (SAP NetWeaver PI) offering is one of the building blocks of SAP’s enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) technology and a key component of the integration environment provided by the SAP NetWeaver technology platform. SAP NetWeaver PI facilitates the integration of systems within a company and service enablement of legacy applications and enables communication with external business partners.

Continuing the success story that began with the release of the SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure component some years ago, the new release of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 is available as of July 25 in un-restricted shipment. Used for middleware consolidation in customer landscapes, the release mainly leverages functionality for service enablement and service and process orchestration. Following a successful ramp-up, 40 customers now work actively with the new product release and five customers have gone live with it. In addition, five further customers have also successfully finished their proof-of-concept projects with SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1. Customers are clearly making SAP NetWeaver Process Integration the cornerstone of their enterprise SOA strategy.

Overall, customers are very satisfied with the new functionality offered with SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1. For an example, listen to the interview with Gerald Eder from Swiss Post (part I), a customer that went live with SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 in only three weeks.

This release of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration brings to market such key enterprise SOA foundation technology as Enterprise Services Repository and the Services Registry. It also offers support for key Web services standards and significant performance improvements. For more details of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1, see the  SOA Middleware page on SDN.

    Hi,
Is any Sneak Preview Version planned?
BTW is there also a standalone ABAP 7.10 stack or only together with Java in PI?
    Thanks,

  4. Hi Sindhu
Is any Sneak Preview Version planned to be released for PI 7.1 ? As a current XI 3.0 SP18 customer – we are interested in moving to PI 7.1 – but would like to have a sneak preview before we request an upgrade from our outsourcing partner. Please let us know if SAP has a sneak preview release for 7.1 in their agenda or not. Appreciate your response.

I want to know the message that we have to transmit to our clients related to XI/PI Performance. We made the ramp-up of 7.1, and the performance related to ccBPM database access and the Advanced AE is improved. But will be really usefull for us what type of integration scenarios (eSOA or not) are recomended the PI 7.1.

Also, related to Galaxy. As i understand is a new BPMmn engine with a good performance (specially for sync, or high volume of transactions but with no BAM) that will replace ccBPM. Meanwhile the product is developed and implemented, what uses we could recomend of PI 7.1 ccBPM? and what message we need to transmit to our customers?)

    Hi Sindhu
Thanks for sharing this information. We are looking at upgrading our XI 7.0 SP12 to PI 7.1. Our backend ECC system is at PI_BASIS SP11. Will an upgrade to PI 7.1 demand an upgrade to PI_BASIS in the backend ECC system as well? If not, what is the minimum SP level the PI_BASIS component in the backend ECC system should be at? I don’t find this information in upgrade guide; where will this information be normally available?
    Thanks
    KK
