Watch this new flashbook on master data management to see how MDM promotes trust in enterprise information by extracting, consolidating, and enriching supplier master data from a remote system, that after this quality treatment is sent back to the source. Data enrichment, that is, address validation, is done using Business Objects services.

    Hi,

    3 questions around MDM integration:
    1) Overview deck mentions “BI master data consolidation (MDM/BI integration)” on page 33. What is a current status of MDM/BI integration? How close is it?
    2) If you want to extract data from external db, should you use ODBC or JDBC driver? Where is it configurable?
    3) Can you write data directly into non-SAP sources during distribution, or or you can have only create XML or Flat Files to be loaded into external system later on?

    Thank you,
    -Vitaliy

      Hi Vitaliy,
With regards to your questions let me inform you as follows:

      1. See the relevant documentation on SAP Help Portal
      2. You can use native SQL connections for MS SQL and Oracle or ODBC. ODBC is configured as described for the ODBC driver. MDM does not support JDBC directly, but you need to use NetWeaver PI then.
      3. When using MDM on a stand-alone basis, distributing master data from an MDM repository to remote systems can only be done by exporting record data to a file in either flat text or XML
formatting, but there is more flexibility in information exchange when interacting with SAP NetWeaver PI. (btw – for MDM 7.1 a specific PI adapter is planned to enhance communication with PI).

      Regards,
      Markus
