In the second quarter of this year Business Objects is teaming up with an e-commerce vendor to provide an e-Bay “like” marketplace for developers to be able to sell their Business Objects related technologies and products.
This new site will help to provide a common place where developers can sell proprietary plug-ins, extensions, and applications that extend and enhance Business Objects products.
The original idea came from a new Developer SDK that will be available with the latest version of Xcelsius. This new SDK allows developers to create plug-ins that can become new widgets and controls inside of Xcelsius. The idea was to create a marketplace where these new plug-ins can be shared in a common place to enable potential buyers and sellers to easily find each other.
This model fits very nicely with other technologies like Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, and Universes. The site will cater to all Business Object related plug-ins, tools, and extensions. Over the years I have seen a number of great tools developed with Business Objects SDKs which would be a great fit for a site like this.
Although the site will not be directly linked to Business Objects, we will be helping to promote and market the site to potential customers. The site will have a soft launch sometime in early Q2 2008 to allow potential vendors to upload their content and licenses. Once we have a good amount of content for potential customers we will proceed with an official launch sometime later in Q2.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who has worked with our SDKs, whether they be a long time partner who wants more marketing leverage for their products or small time developer looking to share some neat tools they have created.
